Last night I cried....

Last night I cried, a strange effect,

"It's only a film";   I recollect,

I said that to my wife, you know,

But that was 60 years ago.

I don't remember crying then,

I'm sure I did, but just like men,

We kept it in, it didn't show,

But that was 60 years ago.

And so I realised, I've changed,

My muddled mind's been rearranged.

Emotions, once I never had,

Slipping out, and is that sad?

Well....  not so sad considering,

What life has thrown me in the ring.

It hit me hard, and now I know,

More than I did, 60 years ago.

Compassion, love, hope and peace,

Has grown throughout my times of grief.

And God's been so gracious, this I know,

Since I first believed, 60 years ago.
